My Review of Five Nights at Freddy's 2!!!- (⭐½/5)

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the latest installment in a long franchise of books, games and films. I didn't really enjoy it's 2023 predecessor, however, I went into this one hopeful that they would deliver ample scares, a fun time for the audience and mend all the mistakes they had made in the last part (lore-wise and script-wise). Sadly, this was not the case.
Starting off with the positives, I really enjoyed the retro vibe and the accuracy with which it was captured. Some shots, especially in the pizzeria, perfectly convey the horror and grit of the animatronics. The tense background score also helps the audience to immerse themselves in each chase scene, feeling the anxiety and nervousness of each character.
With that being said, the film suffers from some major issues: a wafer-thin plot paired with plastic acting. The script is quite nonsensical and jumps from scene to scene without having a central conflict or objective. Unfortunately, the editing does not try to help, patching together random scenes in a choppy manner, which ultimately disconnects and bores the audience. The dialogues are mostly expositional with no emotion and the actors just seem tired with the roles they are playing. Josh Hutcherson's performance in FNAF 1 was quite fitting and powerful, however, in this one his performance feels shallow and lethargic. The cast was also severly underutilized, sidelining actors such as Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, in order to give the animatronics more screen time.
The film is oddly paced, rushing through emotional scenes without giving the audience time to dig into the characters onscreen, and dragging aimlessly throughout scenes that provide no real value. The lore inaccuracies are galore and the excessive exposition utterly destroys this film. The script could have been tighter if it was fixated on one central issue, but the endless amount of useless subplots had me bored and tired by the end of the film.
In conclusion, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is an underwhelming sequel that disappointed me and bored me. If you are an ardent fan of the series, you should check it out and you may even enjoy the cinematography and callbacks to the games/books. If not, check this one out on streaming.
I 100% agree bro, and this is just the negatives of the writing itself, its even worse when you look at the storyline in the games compared to the the storyline in the movies. Its a whole different idea that just capitalizes of the games.
ReplyDeleteExactly, there are a ton of lore inaccuracies
Deleteyeah the plot made no sense and the objective and ideals of the villain just felt cheap 😭they tried too hard to show off the animatronics and completely ignored the actual plot and story + character depth
ReplyDeleteI agree. The characters just felt one-dimensional and the plot was everywhere
