My Review of Zootropolis 2!!!- (⭐⭐⭐⭐/5)

|

Very few sequels ever justify their existence. Zootropolis 2 does it in the first 10 minutes.

The long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed 2016 cartoon: Zootopia has finally arrived, and MAN did it blow me away.

Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard and picking up right from where the first one ended, Zootropolis 2 follows the fun loving duo: Nick and Judy, as they solve their newest case concerning a reptile that threatens to disturb the peace of their city. I was a huge fan of the first film and had rewatched it multiple times for its comedic value and unique representation of coexistence, and it's safe to say that this sequel is one of (if not) the best animated films of the year.

The script written by Jared Bush is extremely deep, weaving in themes of acceptance and harmony, while also sprinkling comedic references to famous movies such as The Godfather and other popular media. The newly introduced characters are fleshed out properly, the highlight being the villain: Gary De'Snake. I love how the film continued to develop it's new characters while not sidelining the old ones and continuing to show the strong bond between our beloved duo. The thing I loved the most about the first film and the sequel is Jason Bateman's voice acting. He captures the "sly-fox" attitude perfectly and delivers lines in a way that makes you erupt in chuckles.

The animation is eye-catching and exploding with color, the world-building and expansion is stronger and the storytelling is fresh, allowing adults to enjoy it along with their children. The music by Michael Giacchino continues to capture the whimsical and goofy vibe of Zootropolis and the crisp editing allows the film to move at an extremely brisk pace, never failing to entertain you and make you burst out with laughter at each scene.

Not a lot to say and I don't have any nitpicks, however, I do wish that the 3rd act was edited better and a little bit tighter as it seemed to wander around a little and struggled to conclude. I also wish that the villains had a bit more depth instead of seeming caricaturish and two-dimensional.

Jaden's Verdict

All in all, Zootropolis 2 is a fitting sequel to a beloved cartoon and managed to carry the same tone of it's predecessor while also being thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. Had a ton of fun with this one and can't wait to catch the next installment!

⭐ Rating: 8/10 and catch it in cinemas with your kids for a magical time at the cinema!
