My Review of Tron: Ares (2025)!!!- (⭐⭐⭐½ /5)

The long-awaited installment in the Tron series is finally here, and it's a good one. After 15 years of fans itching every single body part for a sequel, Joachim Rønning takes up the mantle of delivering the good news. I went in with extremely low expectations after seeing the negative reviews and the box office failures, but this might be the most fun I've had with a Disney movie in a LONG time.

The story follows two rival tech companies: ENCOM, led by Eve Kim, and Dillinger Systems, led by Julian Dillinger—Ed Dillinger’s grandson. Julian manages to create a super-intelligent AI program: ARES, that serves as a military soldier and can be deployed during battle. He's biblically strong, lightning fast, supremely intelligent—and if he is struck down on the battlefield, a duplicate system is instantly deployed.

The pulsating, heart-pounding, techno-esque soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, paired with the gorgeous visuals, creates an extremely immersive viewing experience. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for at least 15 minutes during the bike chase scene. My toes were curled, I was leaping off my chair and hooting at every single action scene.

Jeff Cronenweth really nails the tension in each frame, especially through the use of fast cuts and quick transitions. I really enjoyed seeing Jared Leto play a role that actually suits him: robotic, deadpan and expressionless. He nails the weird humor in certain scenes and fits perfectly into the rest of the film.

Greta Lee isn’t given much to do, but she still delivers during the emotional moments. Jeff Bridges adds a neat cameo toward the end of the film (even though I couldn't hear what he was saying).

Everything in this film worked for me except the third act. It felt extremely tedious — more like a montage of fights with the same background music and repetitive visuals. The screenplay and script are quite thin compared to Legacy and the original, relying mostly on nostalgia and eye-popping visuals.

I do wish the characters were a little more fleshed out and the pacing a bit tighter, but overall, it was an awesome experience for what it was.

Jaden's Verdict

All in all, I had tons of fun with this film, and it absolutely deserves to be watched on the biggest screen possible. If you aren’t a Tron fan, this movie might not work for you and might feel nonsensical. If you are a Tron fan, I recommend checking this one out immediately.

⭐ Rating: 7/10 and catch it in cinemas for a wild ride!
